Confirmation & Communion 2017
The boys in Second Class will be receiving their First Holy Communion on Saturday the 20th of May in St. John Vianney Church, Ardlea road.
Together with their teachers Ms. Cahill and Ms. McCole, they have been preparing for this great day since last September. They have already had their Service of Enrolment and the next step of their journey will be there First Confessions.
Their teachers are bringing the boys to mass once a month, as another part of their preparation.
Their Service of Enrolment, First Confessions and First Holy Communion are all facilitated by Fr. Hugh Hanley, our parish priest who makes each of these steps of their journey a joyous and memorable experience for both the boys and their parents.
In sixth class, preparation is well under way for Confirmation which will take place on Thursday the 9th of March. We began our work in October with the Service of Enrolment during which we committed to preparing well for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
We are working on our Confirmation projects at the moment. We are collecting photographs, writing short pieces and gathering recommendations. We will present our projects at the beginning of the Confirmation Ceremony. These projects will be on display in the school in June as we prepare for our Graduation Ceremony.
We are learning about the Holy Spirit and how the Gifts of the Holy Spirit can help us in our daily lives as we live as God’s witnesses.
Before our Confirmation Day we will have our Service of Light. Our parents will pass us a candle as a symbol of the faith they are passing on to us. They will promise to help us to live spirit-filled lives.
We will also have a Penitential Service before our Confirmation where we can say sorry to God for the times we haven’t lived as He asks us to and receive his forgiveness.
Altogether, it’s a busy and exciting time here in sixth class!
