Junior Hurling ’18

We are very encouraged with the enthusiasm shown from the junior hurlers this year. Numbers for training have been fantastic and we were delighted to be able to bring 23 boys from 5th, 4th & 3rd class to our first match.

6th Class Buddy Reading

6th class once again joined up with our buddies in Ms O’Leary’s 1st class for Buddy Reading. The boys showed a lot of responsibility and helped their buddies by segmenting and blending, prediction and summary of their stories.

6th Class Authors

The boys are busy in the final stages of editing their stories which will be published later this year. We have put a lot of work into planning, drafting, editing and proof-reading and all our hard work is coming to fruition. We can’t wait to see the final product!

Circuits – 6th Class

For PE today we undertook circuit training. As a class, we brainstormed different ideas and skills we could incorporate into the session. The boys were careful to include both physical and technical activities and to stagger them so that each muscle would get a rest.

6th Class Attendance

Well done to the boys in Room 18 who achieved full attendance for Term 1.

Christmas Time in Room 18

The boys in 6th made a great effort (they put their teacher to shame). We all wish you a Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year!

6th & 1st Class – Reading Buddies

Ms O’Leary’s 1st Class met their Reading Buddies from Mr Moloney’s 6th Class for the first time today. We will be meeting up once a week for shared and guided reading exercises.

6th Class Science Day

As part of National Science Week we took part in a Food Experiment Course in Donnycarney Community Centre. We learned all about Liquid Nitrogen Ice-Cream, Experimental Cavier, Agar Seaweed, Taste Testing & much more. The boys loved the hands-on nature of the experiments.

Trump Vs Kim – Halloween Celebrations

Well done to everyone who dressed up for our Halloween Parade. It created a great atmosphere around the school.

We enjoyed, in particular, this offering from Mr Conaghan (Trump), Mr Tobin, Luke Thompson (Kim Jong Un), Luke Gorman and Ronan Hackett.

The Heroes Return

What a game! We could not be prouder of our senior football team who lost in a titanic battle in Croke Park against St Patrick’s NS, Drumcondra. The score was an agonising 4-7 to 4-6.

Perhaps nerves had their part to play in the first half and we trailed by 10 points. This was the point where everyone could give up and surrender the match, however, the David’s boys went out and showed unbelievable heart and brought the score level with 5 minutes to play.

With seconds remaining and a point down, a goal chance from David’s was cleared off the line. It was not meant to be but every player could hold their head up high for the courage and determination they showed, particularly in the second half.

*Pictured above is the guard of honour the parents and staff of St David’s held for every player on their return. In shot is Gavin Tiernan (our double goal-scoring supersub) carried by Finn O’Neill and Luke Thompson.
